## About Retro Football

Take the snap as quarterback in a chunky 8-bit pixel-art gridiron and try to outscore the opponent before the clock hits zero. Retro Football puts four receivers on the field running fixed routes - a go, a slant, an out, and a post - while five defenders rush straight at you the instant the ball is snapped. Hold the ball too long and you take a sack for a 5-yard loss, so your job is to scramble for a beat, then fire to one of the four receivers with keys 1-4 or a tap. There is no coverage to read: defenders pressure the passer until you throw, then chase whoever catches the ball, and the only way a pass fails is if its flight path clips a defender, which is ruled incomplete.

A complete pass is caught automatically, after which your receiver auto-runs upfield until tackled or scoring. A full downs system tracks 1st through 4th down with 10 yards to go on a 100-yard field; a touchdown is worth 7 points, while failing on 4th down hands the opponent 3 points and resets you to your own 20. The game clock starts at 120 and drops 8 per play, giving you about 15 plays to pile up points.

## Retro Football Tips & Strategies

1. Do not hold the ball too long or the five-man rush will sack you for a 5-yard loss.
2. Slant and out routes break quickly and are reliable when you just need a short gain.
3. The go and post routes take longer to develop but can pick up big yardage downfield.
4. Scramble the quarterback sideways to dodge the rush and buy your receivers an extra second.
5. Aim your throws through open lanes - a pass is ruled incomplete only if its flight path passes too close to a defender.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is Retro Football?

Retro Football is an 8-bit American football game where you play quarterback, throwing to four receivers and running a full downs system to score touchdowns against a rushing defense.

### How do you throw the ball?

After the snap, press a number key 1-4 or tap a receiver to throw to one of the four routes (go, slant, out, post). The catch is automatic if the ball reaches the receiver without clipping a defender.

### How does scoring work?

A touchdown is worth 7 points. Failing to convert on 4th down is a turnover on downs that gives the opponent 3 points and sets you back to your own 20 with a fresh 1st and 10.

### How long is a game?

The clock starts at 120 and drops 8 each play, so you get roughly 15 plays. The final screen shows a win only if you have outscored the opponent.
