Take the snap as quarterback in a chunky 8-bit pixel-art gridiron and try to outscore the opponent before the clock hits zero. Retro Football puts four receivers on the field running fixed routes - a go, a slant, an out, and a post - while five defenders rush straight at you the instant the ball is snapped. Hold the ball too long and you take a sack for a 5-yard loss, so your job is to scramble for a beat, then fire to one of the four receivers with keys 1-4 or a tap. There is no coverage to read: defenders pressure the passer until you throw, then chase whoever catches the ball, and the only way a pass fails is if its flight path clips a defender, which is ruled incomplete. A complete pass is caught automatically, after which your receiver auto-runs upfield until tackled or scoring. A full downs system tracks 1st through 4th down with 10 yards to go on a 100-yard field; a touchdown is worth 7 points, while failing on 4th down hands the opponent 3 points and resets you to your own 20. The game clock starts at 120 and drops 8 per play, giving you about 15 plays to pile up points.
