## About Ant Farm

Your colony opens with five ants — three workers and two foragers — and a stockpile of 50 food, viewed from a cross-sectional underground cutaway. The heart of the game is the role panel along the bottom: use the plus and minus buttons to reassign ants between four jobs. Workers extend the tunnel network by digging at random tiles adjacent to existing tunnels (each new tunnel earns 2 points), foragers roll for food on the surface (a successful haul adds 2 food and 1 point), soldiers each absorb two points of incoming threat damage, and nursery ants each have a 15% chance every half-second tick to spend 10 food and hatch a brand-new worker, worth 10 points.

A day passes every 15 seconds and is worth 5 points; after day three, predator threats begin attacking, growing stronger as the days mount, and any damage your soldiers do not block kills random ants. Every tick the colony eats food equal to roughly a third of an ant per head, and if the larder hits zero an ant starves each tick until you restock. The run ends when the last ant dies, and your final screen tallies score, total ants raised, and days survived. It is a lean, watchable balancing act between digging, foraging, defense, and growth.

## How to Play Ant Farm

You begin with three workers, two foragers, and 50 food. Open the role panel at the bottom and use the plus and minus buttons to shift ants between the four jobs. Keep enough foragers bringing in food, enough workers digging tunnels for score, and at least one or two nursery ants so the colony can hatch new workers (each birth costs 10 food). From day four onward, predators start attacking, so assign soldiers to soak up the damage. Every tick the colony eats food, so never let your reserves run dry, or ants will starve one at a time. The simulation runs on its own; your only job is balancing the role split. The game ends when all ants are gone.

## Controls

Use the plus and minus buttons in the role panel to move ants between Workers, Foragers, Soldiers, and Nursery. Press P or Escape to pause. The colony view itself is for watching — there is no clicking, zooming, or panning on the simulation.

## Ant Farm Tips & Strategies

1. Keep at least one nursery ant assigned whenever you have 10 or more food, since births are the only way to grow the colony.
2. Foragers only return food on a successful roll, so run several of them to keep your reserves ahead of consumption.
3. Each ant eats roughly a third of a food unit per tick, so a bigger colony needs proportionally more foragers.
4. Soldiers each block two points of threat damage; add a couple before day four when predators start attacking.
5. When food drops toward zero, temporarily convert nursery ants to foragers — starvation removes one ant per tick at zero food.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How do I grow my ant colony?

Growth comes entirely from nursery ants. Assign one or more to the Nursery role and keep at least 10 food on hand. Each nursery ant has a 15% chance every half-second tick to spend 10 food and hatch a new worker. The more nurses and food you maintain, the faster the colony expands.

### What do the four ant roles do?

Workers dig new tunnels at random tiles next to existing ones (2 points each), foragers collect food on the surface (2 food and 1 point per successful haul), soldiers each block two points of predator damage, and nursery ants hatch new workers for 10 food. You set the balance yourself with the plus and minus buttons — nothing is automatic.

### How does the colony die?

The only loss condition is every ant dying. If food runs out, one random ant starves each tick until you recover. Predator threats begin after day three and remove ants whenever their strength exceeds your soldiers' defense. Keep foragers ahead of food consumption and soldiers ready for raids to survive longer.
